Boston Granny

Screen Name: BostonGranny

Nick Name: Granny

System Setup: PS4 Console on a large screen TV

I am an old lady from Boston who likes to play video games on a PS4 console. My family has always been a gaming family with our first game being Pong. I have always been a computer person from way back starting with the Radio Shack TRS-80 and Timex Sinclair 1000. As a child I was fascinated with making both of these things do what I wanted them to do and started my adventure into the programming world.

I attended a vocational high school in the Boston area and was enrolled in the Data Processing program where I continued to be fascinated with making a computer read, manipulate, and produce output with code that I had created. I went to college for Computer Science and continued my studies in computer programming. Eventually I became a computer programmer and worked up the ladder until I had a team of developers working under me. I have always considered myself lucky to have had a career that was more fun than work.

I started playing Minecraft to stay connected to my grandson who lives outside the Boston area. We first started playing he was very young and we played Minecraft in creative mode. It has only been in the last year that I have really started to play Minecraft in survival mode and really begun to understand the game. When people hear I actually enjoy playing Minecraft, many of them express disbelief that I am playing a child’s game and enjoying it. If you had asked me my thoughts on Minecraft before I “discovered” survival mode, I would have had the same reaction. Since starting to play in Survival mode, I now realize that Minecraft is much, much, more than a child’s game.

I have really started to enjoy Minecraft even more since the Bedrock edition came out and enabled cross play with other players on other platforms. The only thing I did not like was that I could not create or join a realm. I had a few friends that I liked to play Minecraft with and it was frustrating when you where in the middle of a build on someone’s world that you could not get back to finish it until the next time they were on. That all changed in July when one person in our group discovered Bedrock Dedicated Servers (BDS). We setup a BDS and all of us were able to connect to it at anytime even if no one else was on the server. We have played like this since and it has been awesome seeing all the ideas and builds that people have done on that server. Some of us are on for so long, that time gets ways from us. As a result, MinecraftPhoria was born.

Playing Minecraft on a BDS has also allowed me to start playing with mods and changing the game play. Since programming is my background, I really enjoy this aspect of Minecraft. You will eventually see some of my mods on the MinecraftPhoria server.
